Nouns and Articles in Portuguese 2

Hi,

In our last lesson we’ve learned a, o, as, os, de(from) and a(to) in Portuguese. If you haven’t seen it yet or didn’t understand well, please follow the link and review it once again.

In this lesson we are gonna learn em and its different forms in different conditions.

em (no, na, nos, nas)

It means in/into or on in English.

——————————————————————

If it is followed by a masculine noun it turns into no

em + o = no

Você pode me mostrar no mapa? (Can you show me on the map?) [o mapa]

——————————————————————

If it is followed by a feminine noun it turns into na

em + a = na

A gente mora na cidade. (People live in the city) [a cidade]

——————————————————————

If it is followed by plural masculine noun it turns into nos

em + os = nos

Colocá-los nos cestos. (Put them in the baskets) [os cestos]

  • Note: Don’t confuse nos and nós. The second one has ó which means it should be read as o not u. The pronunciations of those two like following: nos = noosh , nós = nosh

——————————————————————

If it is followed by plural feminine noun it turns into nas

em + a = nas
